The Who Night 2 (Houston)

I'm only giving one AKA on this one and it's:
Roger is the Sexiest Man Alive

And really, you have no idea the level of sexiness hit tonight. From his deep voice, to his muscles (legs and arms), to the nice tush shot when he put his water down, to his dance moves during Cry if You Want (including the cutest shimmy ever)...I could go on but I might pull an exploding Who girl. Just take my word, it was all Kimberly and I could do to not pass out multiple times during the show.

Pete and Roger were crazy into the show tonight. From the start you could feel they had tons of energy, and pumping into it was the fact that this audience was all about participation. Singing, screaming, clapping, it was electricity all night from the crowd.

Can't Explain, Seeker, and Substitute went off without a hitch. Roger sporting what seemed to be the same outfit from last night, Pete in black again with his shades this time. High energy from the get go.

I have to admit I was a bit worried about Roger's voice in Fragments, he was hitting a few clunkers, but aside from that one song and maybe two or three cracked words in Real Good Looking Boy, he was in top form all night. In fact he sounded better than last night.

One thing I noticed off the bat was the sound level. It was really loud compared to last night...maybe that's just because it was a smaller venue., but whatever the reason it worked wonders. And the mix was great, everything could be heard. Pete was also in top vocal form, and loud enough to go through the blazing guitars.

You could really feel that Pete and Roger were putting everything into this one, most of the standard songs, especially in the 2nd half of the show were extended. And extended with style.

Real Good Looking Boy was played at an abnormally fast pace. It threw me off a bit, I'm not sure if it was planned or if Zak got a bit too excited.

Mini opera went off great, We Got a Hit and Endless Wire being the highlights. Roger messed up one line of Mirror Door and ended up repeating himself but I doubt anyone caught it.

Baba O'Riley was the song to die for. Audience screaming every line, Pete improvising a bunch, Roger really getting into it. The standing ovation after that one was so long and so loud that Pete didn;t know when to talk. He was standing there in awe for a few mins. When he finally did speak you knew he was feeling it as much as the crowd. He mentioned the austronaut who took Baba to space was in the audience...he told a HORRIBLE but cute space joke (don't quit your dayjob Pete), and basically seemed to be having a wonderful time. If there was any doubt that this would be a top notch show Baba cleared it up, this show was going for the gold.

Pete thanked everyone for coming, which he got a huge cheer for...and then thanked everyone who bought the cd, which hardly anyone made noise except for Kimberly and I screaming at the top of our lungs. Which made our whole section laugh. I'm sure if you get the encore you could hear us haha

Eminence Front was funky and again very loud.

Man in a Purple Dress was in my eyes flawless. Surprisingly it also had good audience participation.

Mike Post Theme, nailed. nailed nailed nailed. Screams and all. Top notch.

You Better You Bet as always was a huge crowd pleaser, and not just when Roger stuck his mic out, but through the whole song.

My Generation into Cry if You Want was on fire. The momentum by this part of the show was unstoppable. Cry if You Want was beyond funky (and included some nice dance moves by Roger including a long tush shimmy for the crowd, and I died). Last nights was good, tonights was past better and onto best.

And Won't Get Fooled Again was rafter shaking, Pete entended the end until I thought everyone in the arena was going to pass out from screaming. I felt like I busted a vocal chord cheering on the multiple windmills that just kept on coming.

the audience cheered, clapped, screamed, whistled, and stood through the entire encore break to an almost alarming level. I tell you, this was the greatest crowd Texas has ever put together.

Tommy encore, wonderful. Pinball Wizard was amazingly loud. And at some point in the encore Pete was adding lyrics and going crazy on the guitar like I've yet to hear in this Who generation. Roger broke 2 or 3 tamborines, I couldn't tell if the one he finally started to hit against his leg was a full one or just the remains.

Again, amazing crowd response.

Tea and Theatre closed of course, and it was done great. Roger's voice cracked once but I think it actually sounded more emotional than strained. At the end they were saying stuff to the crowd in the mics but I have NO idea what it was because the screams and cheers completely drown it out. I did catch Roger's Thank you Houston and be lucky, but what Pete said was completely lost on me.

This show was a Who fans dream.

Now I'm off to scrounge for money to buy this dvd.

I haven't read this yet, but I just want to say that, yes - Roger is the sexiest man alive.

And WE JUST SAW THE WHO!

So I have many, many things I could comment on but I'm too tired to write them all. Tomorrow. You can bug me tomorrow and I'll provide a proper running commentary. Suffice it to say that your entire entry is spot on.

YAY! The Who! Roger! The Who! Pete! The Who! Sexiness! The Who! YAY!

You do remember that SOMEONE couldn't remember the wireless password last night, right? And I guess I really haven't been complaining about this RETARDED GROUP PROJECT enough at all.

But, because you're nagging, I'll do it now. It'll take a few minutes though so HOLD YOUR HORSES!

Did you want me to comment or watch the movie?

Though to be fair, I sort of fell asleep instead of doing either.

running commentary for you

The tush shot and the tush shimmy...I thought I could feel my temperature rising during those. During that entire song, really.

I love that Pete wore shades. They're light show is so crazy that I sometimes felt I should have shades of my own. I was blinded several times by a roving spotlight suddenly pointing into the nosebleed section.

The comment about Zak and Real Good Looking Boy - "Zak got a bit too excited" - still makes me giggle. And reminds me of That Thing You Do. At least Roger can follow a cue, unlike the lead singer in the Wonders. And thank goodness The Who have more than one song in their repertoire!

I didn't even catch the flubbed line in Mirror Door - and I actually know those words! I loved the entire mini opera - particularly the arrangement they sang of Endless Wire, which was slightly different from both cd versions.

I can't add anything to your Baba recounting because you covered it all. I adored everything about that song. And Pete's joke still boggles me.

I still don't know why you wouldn't buy the new cd, particularly if you knew you were going to be at the concert in the next few weeks. Crazy people.

I will probably watch the DVD of this concert and still get nervous during Mike Post Theme. If Roger was going to fail on us, it would have been there. Thank goodness he didn't! YAY ROGER!

Seeing You Better You Bet live makes me love that song even more. I adore audience participation at concerts. It makes me feel like part of the band!

The multiple windmills in Won't Get Fooled Again were absolutely fantastic. And Roger's scream was great - apparently the crowd agreed as the tail end of the scream was completely drowned out by people cheering and clapping and generally going mad.

So I'm glad we stood during the entire break and the encore, but I am glad we didn't stand for the whole concert. It would have been perfectly fine down in the lower sections, but I think I might have fallen off the balcony had we stood the entire time up there. Good thing the people in front of us left after the preshow (idiots - them and the pretenders) because I used their seats to prop up a foot while standing. An attempt to not lean forward and tumble down the rows.

The random tambourine pieces flying across the stage made the whole encore even more marvelous than it already was. Go Roger!

I listened to Tea and Theatre again while driving home today and that song is really growing on me. It's just in such an odd place that I tend to overlook it still. But hearing Roger sing it live has made me determined not to overlook it.

YAY THE WHO!

Re: running commentary for you

Yea for long comments!

Roger's tush can raise anyone's temperature haha as can the biceps and chest *swoons* *falls over* *must take more care whilst swooning*

I know I was blinded multiple times during both shows, but I think more during Houston, they were really lighting up the crowd. However none of the screens had the crowd on them so I'm wondering if they were gathering crowd shots for the Encore DVD?

Haha well it seems our RGLB was unique and I've never heard it like that before so it's very possible it was just Zak after a Red Bull or something.

The crowd was so loud in everything. Someone on the who board said on the Sirius replay it sounded like "a million people." WOO!!!

Yeah I couldn;t really look straight down during the standing bit or I felt like I was falling forward. Like the man that almost died off the balcony. Crazy people!

Tea and Theatre is the best. Amazing song. And after watching The Queen do you see what I mean about the kind of restrained English way to cope that comes out in the song? It really hits powerfully.

Re: running commentary for you

It wouldn't even be a graceful swoon in those balcony seats. More like a headline worthy catastrophe.

Crowd shots would be awesome, as long as they didn't detract from shots of the band.

Red Bull. hehe

Yay us for our vocal strength.

And yeah, that song and The Queen both have that same restrained feel. I could never be British.

Re: running commentary for you

Haha yeah swooning in nosebleed is not so good.

As long as Roger's tush shimmy is in the cut I'll be happy. If that's not there I might cry.

I could certainly understand it, though don't think I could show the same restraint myself. It's a theme Pete uses in a lot of his writing, esp the damage the war caused on people's ability to show emotion. It's really interesting.
