John here with a wrecky collage of cakes which are “near and dear” to my heart: sports cakes.

I like to think one of the reasons Jen was first attracted to me (besides my devastating, Kiefer-Sutherland-before-he-got-too-skinny-on-24 good looks*, of course) is my natural affinity for sports. Sure, I don't like to watch them much, or talk about them, or really play any, but I am way more knowledgeable on the subject than Jen is. (Granted, Jen thinks 4D chess deserves its own Olympic category, so that's not saying much, but still...)

Anyway, I've been asked to shed a little testosterone-fueled light on some of these here basketball cakes. Here goes.

The first thing to know is that the ball is round. Like so:

(In the decorator's defense, it is really hard to make a round cake. It’s not like they make pans for that kind of thing.)

This baker solved the round problem with a classic "spinning rug of poo on a bed of scrapple" approach:

Then again, maybe it's not spinning so much as it is sprouting ear hair... which raises a bunch of other questions I won't get into right now.

(Oh, and this is probably a good place to mention that it’s never a good idea to change tips and/or Wreckerators mid-cake. Nobody likes mismatched balls.)

Next we have the ever popular basketball-flower-with-an-obligatory-face cake:

What’s with all the faces on balls anyway? Is there a rule that says that all round objects on a cake have to be looking at you?

And if so, what kind of occasion calls for a nauseous basketball, anyway?

"Ug, I think I'm about to dribble, if you catch my drift..."

At least this last one looks happy, if a bit demented.

Aaaand we’ve come full circle with the round thing again. Given that they're both dreaded CCCs *ptooie* , that's not much of a surprise.

So in conclusion, sports are an inspiring blah blah blah full of life lessons blah blah blah, funny joke that showcases my wit and charm... blah blah.

Jessica S., Hallie S., Tara M., Erin K., and Ann Marie W., try to contain yourselves, please; I'm happily married**.

- Related Wreckage: Have a Ball!

* Jen wrote that, not me. (I would have gone with a Matt Damon/Brad Pitt mash-up.)

**And by "happily" I mean "ecstatically overjoyed with every passing day" - er, did I get that right, Sweetie?

Hello Kitty is the epitome of all things cute, to an almost nauseating degree:

However, put her in the hands of these bakers and she becomes a puff-faced gerbil with a glandular problem:

This next one is deceptively nice, other than the RSS-icon hair bow...

...but then you realize that massive domed face is ALL icing, slathered onto a...a....[swallowing] CUPCAKE CAKE!! [blood-curdling scream]

I think this next baker tried to make a Hello Kitty vampire, but since HK has no mouth it turned out a little...odd.

Transplanted walrus tusks, or dangling fingers? I suppose either works on the cracked black background. Oh, and maybe this is just me, but I find that a vampire who waves totally loses all "cool" credibility. Seriously. Can you picture Dracula waving? Of course not. It's just not dignified.

Now, if you want a creepy Hello Kitty done right, you do what Bonefinder did:

Zombie Hello Kitty - excellent!

And lastly, Julie M. found out the hard way that her local bakery either has no idea who Hello Kitty is, or believes she is Porky Pig's sister:

Yes, that's really supposed to be Hello Kitty. Wow.

Hey Ayana W., Holly U., Kelly H., and Matthew Z., what do you get when you combine Hello Kitty & Darth Vader?

Answer: Something that horrifies every Star Wars fan in existence:

Everyone can relax; it's Photoshopped. For legitimate HK insanity, though, check out Hello Kitty Hell. It's funny stuff, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't think a lot of the stuff on there is adorable. (Look at these water bottles and tell me they're not just the cutest - go on.)

Hi peeps.

I recently joined the apocalypse rising faction. I realised that besides my Droog outfit, wouldn't it be fun to create a costume, or get a 'here's one I made earlier' post apocalyptic themed costume. Max Max, Fallout 3/resident evil themed mish mash or similar costuming.

I already sent an email to certain people directly involved with that faction, but I'd like to ask the whole lj community. After all, it takes geeks to assist geeks : D

Thanks
Droogy (Rob)

Have a meme. (:

The Fandom Secrets Meme

How it works:
1. Post your username.
2. Link your friends!
3. Your friends will then either make and post fandom secrets that they think you would make, or link you to previously posted fandom secrets they think could be yours.

For example:
1. [info]firefly99 posts her name.
2. She links me!
3. I post this.
4. [info]firefly99 smiles proudly/cries herself to sleep/faps furiously/whatever.

My son and I passed a Goodwill we'd never been to before so we had to stop in and take a look around. These are a few of the things we found disturbing and strangely intriguing. The first is the face of an angel that was sitting along the edge of the shelf. It's entire face is crooked in a weird Picasso kind of way so I actually sort of like it, but the second angel had a mouth like a vaginal opening with cracks running all over its face and I found it frightening. Here you go...

Hi all.
My husband and I have been Dragoncon attendees for many years, and we have 2 beautiful daughters who come wth us every year.  The oldest is 4 and we have been trying to come up with ways to make the trip special for her (and eventually her younger sister).  I was wondering if there would be any interest in having a princess dress-up party on the 10th floor of the Marriott on Saturday or Sunday afternoon (ala the Pirate Party or the BSG party but G-rated).
If there is enough interest I'll start planning in earnest, so please get back to me.... see you in a few weeks!

I wont be able to get to Dragoncon this year till early Sunday morning around 830/9 a.m.  The hotel said that if a room is not available they can store our bags, so I am just worried about  the parking situation. I have a room at the Hyatt, but I am sure valet will full but what about the nearby lots? We have always been able to park valet at the hotels, but this year wont get there till Sunday so I am not sure. I know not to park in the outside lots but will there be any of the covered lots open, I am hoping since it is early I may have a chance?

So this has been a stressful week that promises to continue to be so until next Wednesday. Awesome sauce. Can I go back on vacay, please pretty please?

Since I am clearly too lazy to do anything so taxing as read my flist, let alone write up a con report for Shore Leave, have two pics of me with famous menfolk. (I beat up the scanner at my place of employ to get it to scan both of these in, just for you guys.)

Hotch/Reid fanfiction gives Kirk/McCoy badfic writers a run for their money. Seriously, going through the Criminal Minds slash fanfic place, it hurts your eyes o_O Well, I'm mostly giggling through the stories, because you can write "Oh Spencer, oh Aaron" only so many times that it's not getting ridiculous at some point. Can anyone rec me ANY good fic (well, preferably no new characters, I'm only up to 1x15, and don't mind het or slash, please no established relationship, they creep me out now that I tried three Hotch/Reid). I just can't read more, trying to find a decent fic.
Still love Jason Gideon. Don't care what everyone said. Episode 14 was AMAZING and Mandy Patinkin made me cry. Trufax! I want to read some good Reid/Gideon friendship father/son fic. I think I have a thing for beginning/ending voice overs in shows (CM, Veronica Mars, Everwood etc.).

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince review tomorrow (I think it will be mainly positive because I did lol a lot during it, and laughs always outweight the bad for me - though there was again way too much Ron-hating and H/Hr (friend)shipping by Kloves, but we're all used to this by now I guess >_>). Anyone knows how the money figures are? I want HP6 to be a hit, the quality doesn't matter.

I had [info]eumelkeks and [info]reese1410 over and we watched Star Trek XI (my - what? - 7th time or so). We should feel horrible, I don't think [info]reese1410 enjoyed it because [info]eumelkeks and I couldn't keep our mouths shut (but it was worse for my boyfriend - he really hates the name "Karl Urban", haha ... plus we talked a lot about gay p0rn xD). It's not entirely our fault, the movie is so damn quotable! Afterwards I fastforwarded through The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, one of my favourite Karl classics. We have to meet up again and watch more of his uh-mazing movies (ahem, Doom and Price of Milk!)

I have to catch up with House season five. The promo for premiere episode of s6 looks amazing. I just don't know if I can get used to Hugh Laurie's extremely short hair.

I want to see a trailer for the Cirque du Freak adaption (which is now called The Vampire's Assistant, so people know it's a movie about vampires, and not only...circus freaks). Not ashamed to be a Darren Shan saga reader, albeit its utter crappiness! ;) I fear the movie will suck though, it's made by a Weitz brother and we all know what happened to Northern Lights The Golden Compass (though technically that was the other Weitz's fault). But the cast is absolutely amazing and worth seeing just for it. They chose a really pretty boy to play Darren, and you have people like Selma Hayek, Willem Defoe, Patrick Fugit (wheee he plays Evra ♥), the boy from Bridge to Bridge to Terabithia (who I found adorable in Zathura, but damn I'm going to hate him in this one), Ken Watanabe, Jane Krakowski and a few more, but John C. Reilly's casting as Mr Crepsley is a weird one though. And I'm not sure if the Vampanezes have flaming red hair, I saw pics where they looked like zombies instead. Aaaand I want to see an adaption of Artemis Fowl, that would be actually interesting. I still haven't read the last (and final?) book, fail :/. And I have to buy/read the second and third installment of The Mortal Instruments as well. You know there is crappy Young Adults literature, and there's Twilight; I prefer former by a mile!

LEVERAGE IS BACK!!!!!! Oh, how I missed my show ♥ And so did over four pages of comments by people. I didn't know the show is so popular on lj. Anyway, I missed these five crazies. And Gina Bellman must be pregnant, that was not a normal weight gain o_O Oh Tim Hutton, I still love you very much, though not as much as Mr Urban at the moment. I can't wait for Wil Wheaton's episode. Apparently his character is very slashy with Hardison, at least that's what the writer said on his twitter (lol).

And last, but not least, anyone knows some fanart places on lj that might inspire me to a "real" header for my journal?

[info]totallybalanced made this gif and it is über cute! (it's the one I told you about @ [info]eumelkeks)

Oh sweet Cupid! ♥

Off to bed now. Sleep well, guys! ♥

Keep cool this summer by wearing this tacky piece of crap! Designed by New York Couture of course. Totally worth 50 bucks for some leftover string, and obnoxious bows.
